When the Orlando division of Peoples Gas curbed it’s enthusiasm for the community, it did it literally – by beautifying a street curb with brilliant flowers.

An early May drizzle couldn’t dampen team members’ drive to bring their best effort to the corner of Parramore Avenue and Conley Street in Orlando, said Orlando Division Manager Mike Hannweber. Joining the 15 Peoples Gas team members in the effort were members of Orlando’s Families, Parks & Recreation Department. Together, the two groups dug up and removed old sod, graded the area to a level surface and then planted an assortment of shrubs and flowers.

“There was a keen sense of pride when taking on this project, with the division office only a few short blocks away, in the same Parramore community,” Hannweber said.

Administrative Secretary Marion Evans coordinated the project for Peoples Gas, while Division Supervisor Larry Robinson directed the field work.

“It’s about sustainability, adding beauty to the community and teamwork all in one,” Evans said. “We know customers rely on the gas we deliver, but we want them to know they can also count on us to be invested in their neighborhoods in ways that are easier to see.”

Hannweber agreed, calling his team’s partnership with Orlando a tremendous success.

“Hopefully this was the first of many opportunities we’ll have to work together on projects like this,” Hannweber said. “We’re good partners in helping the community run, and we all have an interest in helping the community look great too.”
