Peoples Gas is prepared for any natural gas emergencies created by Hurricane Matthew or its aftermath.
Now it’s your turn to prepare: If the hurricane affects Florida, Peoples Gas advises you to leave your natural gas service on, even in the event of an evacuation.
Please do not attempt to turn gas off at your meter.
For safety reasons, Peoples Gas may need to turn off your service at the meter. If you find your gas service has been shut off, please call the Peoples Gas Customer Care Center at 877-TECO-PGS (877-832-6747) to have your service restored.
If you ever smell a rotten egg or sulfur-like odor, there could be a natural gas leak. You should leave the premises immediately and then call the Peoples Gas 24-hour Emergency Gas Leak number: 1-877-832-6747, say “emergency” or select option 8.
If you suspect your natural gas appliances have been flooded or damaged from the storm, you should have the equipment inspected and serviced by a qualified plumber or appliance-service contractor.
Use portable generators safely, and never inside the house, garage, carport or other areas without proper ventilation where carbon monoxide exhaust can build up.
