natural gas furnace used in cold weatherIf winter in Florida brings to mind warm, balmy days, you are spot on – most of the time. We can help you prepare for those occasional cold snaps that can take you by surprise here in the Sunshine State. Check out these cold weather tips to save energy on heating.

Cold weather tips

  • Service your heating system annually and adjust for maximum efficiency.
  • Have your duct system sealed.
  • Set thermostats between 65 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit in winter.
  • Turn the thermostat off or set very low when your home is unoccupied for four hours or more.
  • Clean or change HVAC filters monthly and make sure they are installed facing the correct direction (look for directional arrows on the side of the filter).
  • Ensure windows and doors are properly weather-stripped.
  • Close fireplace dampers when not burning a fire.
  • Set ceiling fans to rotate clockwise in winter and run at low speed.
  • Keep drapes and shades closed at night during the winter to keep heat inside.

Natural gas furnaces or hydro-heat systems are inherently energy efficient. However, if your system is more than 15 years old, new technology provides for even more efficiency and energy savings. Consider installing a new furnace. Our cash-back rebates help with purchase and installations costs.
